During the school year, the Bridge reaches out to children at Bixby North Elementary & Intermediate schools who are experiencing food insecurity. Many of these kids are assured at least one meal a day through the public school’s “Free & Reduced Price Lunch Program” but on the weekends they likely have nothing to eat at home. The bags we provide consist of a protein, pasta, fruit, juice, cereal & a fun snack for two days.
While we would love to send a whole bag of groceries, we have to keep in mind the weight of the bag and cannot include items that need refrigeration. The food is sourced through donations from the congregation and our missions budget. Because our volunteers deliver the bags to the school in a red wagon, which we also use to collect items in the lobby, we call this our Red Wagon Outreach.
Items we are always in need of are peanut butter (16 oz size only), canned tuna & chicken, boxes of mac & cheese, fruit cups, and individual size boxes of cereal.
Bixby Outreach Center is an organization in our own neighborhood that helps families experiencing difficult life circumstances by assisting them with food, clothing, school supplies, or limited financial assistance. There are many ways to volunteer at BOC and we encourage our Bridge family to get involved. Visit their website for information on how you can help. bixbyoutreach.org
Part of Christmas at The Bridge is an outreach designed to bless and support local ministries during this special season. These may vary from year to year according to the need, but we always collect toys for our “Red Wagon Kids.”
As the need arises, we hold drives for blankets, food, diapers, coats, etc.
These are fun, family-friendly events open to the public to demonstrate the generous, loving spirit of the Father and His people. Dates and times will be listed in the Events section.
